This is a revision of the jointly published document, Level of Care Placement Criteria for Psychiatric Illness by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent and the American Psychiatric Association. The new criteria incorporate the assets of various publicly available criteria, national mental health care standards, and the clinical consensus and expertise of the psychiatric profession. These criteria should lead to more effective communications between managed care companies and clinicians
